Available on their website and in Union Kitchen stores, Sweet Dames are the brainchild of Genelle Drayton, a lifelong foodie and dessert savant. Available in a wide variety of flavors, such as chocolate-dipped and salted-caramel, Sweet Dames are snack-sized coconut macaroons and marshmallow pastry sandwiches. Yum. How did Genelle come up with the idea for Sweet Dames? We have to go back to her childhood home to find out. 

Baking was a near-constant in Genelle’s childhood. Her grandparents, who were bakers, were almost always making something delicious. Even at a young age, Genelle wanted to get involved. Whether it was baking or serving as a caterer, the experiences of her childhood would later serve as the main inspiration behind Sweet Dame’s. However, the decision to pursue a full career as a baker was neither an instantaneous nor an easy decision for Genelle. For ten years, Gen had made a successful career for herself in hospitality. Did she really want to put this on hold in favor of pursuing a dream that held no guarantees? It was a tough decision, but, in the end, Genelle decided to pursue her passion in baking. In 2013, Genelle unveiled her first products, the Coconut Macaroons and CoCoMallow sandwiches. 

The secret to the success of Sweet Dames lies in the creation process. Drawing inspiration from her childhood, Genelle remains determined to maintain a high focus on quality. This means only using natural products and forgoing the additives found in most pastries. Those who try Sweet Dames attest to the difference this makes in terms of quality.
